Research & Skills

With my background of solid state chemistry my current major research focus in the field of batteries is the investigation of fundamental processes like structural changes during lithium intercalation of electrode active materials, as well as understanding the interplay of structural changes and performance degradation with cell aging of lithium ion batteries.

Electrode materials:
  • Anodes: Graphite, Lithium titanate (LTO), Lithium metal, Silicium-Graphite Composites (SiG)
  • Cathodes: Layered Oxides LiMO2 (NMC, NMC-111, LCO); Olivine phosphates LFP/LFMP (LiFePO4, Li[Fe,Mn]PO4)
Applied Methods:
  • Structure investigation (Neutron diffraction (ND), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
  • Neutron based methods like Neutron Imaging 2D/3D (NI, Radiography, Tomography), Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), Prompt-Gamma-Activation-Analysis (PGAA), Neutron Depth Profiling (NDP)
  • Positron based methods like CDBS (Co-incident Doppler Broadening Spectroscopy) and PALS (Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy)
