Research & Skills

I am a physicist and my current position is in the Advanced Materials group. I work on additively manufactured aluminum alloys in the scope of the BMFTR project AlaAF. The goal is to understand the manufacturing processes during laser powder bed fusion of high-strength aluminum alloys with RAM additives. This will be achieved by applying various techniques of imaging and diffraction, using both X-ray and neutron radiation. With the background in neutron imaging and magnetic materials, I work in my PhD thesis at the neutron imaging instrument ANTARES of FRM II, focussing on the (ultra-) small-angle-neutron-scattering of the magnetic domain structure in non-oriented electrical steel. The scattering was measured using neutron grating interferometry (nGI), an advanced neutron imaging method to spatially map the scattering contrast depending on residual stress states in the electrical steel sheets. Here the goal is to understand the domain structure in the steel and push the boundaries of what is possible to measure using the relatively new technique of nGI.

Applied Methods:
  • X-ray/Neutron diffraction
  • Neutron imaging
  • Small-angle neutron scattering
