I am a materials scientist with a background in physics, specialising in the synthesis and structural characterisation of battery materials using operando techniques. During my PhD studies, I investigated particle-size-dependent reaction mechanisms and kinetics in conversion-type electrodes using complementary operando methods, including X-ray diffraction, small-angle X-ray scattering, and a custom-built operando magnetometry setup.
At MLZ, my research focuses on Li-ion and Li-metal battery systems, with the aim of understanding the fundamental electrochemical and structural processes that govern battery performance and degradation. To investigate these processes, I use a combination of complementary techniques, including X-ray and neutron scattering to probe structural and phase evolution at the atomic and crystallographic level, and neutron depth profiling to quantitatively determine lithium distributions across interfaces and buried regions within battery components. By combining these methods, I aim to establish direct links between structural evolution, lithium redistribution, and electrochemical performance.
