Sample Environment

The Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) sample environment includes both state of the art equipment and technical expertise in a widespread range of neutron scattering applications. Beyond supplying our standard equipment and supporting users and instrument scientists regarding experimental implementation, we provide and develop custom sample environment equipment.

A detailed description of the available equipment is shown on our webpages. Furthermore, specialized environments are available at the different instruments; please see the respective sections. If a scientific project has special requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the sample environment group or your local contact for assistance.

Activities

Low Temperature

Standard low temperature equipment is cryogen-free. These devices are characterized by easy and user-friendly handling. The standard cryostat covers a temperature-range from 3K up to 300 K. Different sample sticks allow for a wide range of applications such as rotation, high temperature, high voltage, gas adsorption and high pressure. Inserts allow for temperatures down to 50 mK, high temperature sample sticks expand the range up to 700 K.

High Temperature

Different types of furnaces depending on application, sample size and temperature range of interest are available. The maximum available temperature is about 2200K.

High Pressure

We provide different high pressure systems up to 7 GPa.

Magnetic Fields

We provide magnetic fields up to 12 T.

Humidity

We provide different systems for humidity generation in combination with different sample cells and chambers. Dependent on the combination of generator and chamber we can provide up to 95%rHm.
