Research & Skills

I am a material scientist with backgrounds in geomaterials, as well as crystal growth and shape memory alloys. During my PhD, I specialized in the prospering research field of “On-Surface Synthesis”, where molecular precursors are synthesized into nanostructures while adsorbed on solid supports. Here, my focus lied on the synthesis of novel organic 2D materials in ultra-high vacuum environment with the aid of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and other surface sensitive techniques.

At the MLZ, my research aims to improve the understanding about fundamental processes in innovative active materials of lithium ion batteries by means of neutron and x-ray scattering techniques. Thereby, especially new electrode materials may pave the way to higher battery capacities, and moreover reduce the consumption of rare materials like cobalt and graphite.

Electrode Materials:
Silicon-Graphite Composites, Nickel-Rich Layered Oxides

Applied Methods:
  • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
  • Neutron Diffraction (ND)
  • Neutron Depth Profiling (NDP)
  • Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGAA)
