I am a chemist with background in inorganic solid state chemistry. During my PhD, I investigated new ternary intermetallic aluminum compounds with the general composition of MxAlyTz (M = Ca, Sr, Y, Ba, La – Lu, T = Co – Pt), regarding their crystal structure, physical properties and their electronic structure as well as the electron transfer, using various analytical methods like X-Ray diffraction on single crystal and powder samples, 27Al NMR, SEM/EDX and quantum chemical calculations. During my stay at the MLZ, I will research on the additive manufacturing of crack-free aluminum alloys used in aerospace. The 3D printed materials will experience stress test to investigate crack formation, nanostructure changes and durability of these alloys. Besides X-ray diffraction, also neutron scattering will be used to understand the mechanical properties of the materials along their behavior under stress and elevated temperatures.
