Topic: Cooperative research in the field of Co-Re alloys
Proposer: Technische Universität München/FRM II and Nuclear Physics Institute in Řež near Prague
Grant period: 01/2012 – 12/2013

Description/Objective:
The Project Based Personnel Exchange Programme (PPP) between the Forschungs-Neutronenquelle (FRM II in Garching) and the Nuclear Physics Institute (NPI in Řež near Prague) fosters the cooperative research in the field of Co-Re alloys, a new alloy type developed at the TU Braunschweig.

Co-Re alloys are being developed to supplement Ni-base superalloys in gas turbines. The main goal in this material development is to increase the maximum service temperature beyond 1200°C, i.e. at least 100 K more than the present state.

The FRM II operates instruments which – together with the complementary instruments at NPI – allow excellent science in materials research to be carried out, especially in-situ neutron diffraction measurements on high temperature materials. Joint experiments enhance the knowledge transfer and aim to improve the instrumentation and the sample environment.
