Grant period: 01/2012 – 12/2012
Description/Objective:
The aim of this project is to correlate casting process simulations and the predictions of thermo-mechanical degradation mechanisms in Al-Si-alloys. This will improve considerably the prediction results from simulations. In addition, the sensitivity of the casting microstructure and the resulting thermo mechanical properties will be investigated in relation to the prevalent casting process parameters. In contrast to previous unsuccessful simulation attempts, an approach based on a micro mechanical model (μ-FE-model) will be adopted in this research project. Besides X-ray microtomography, mainly in-situ compression and tension neutron diffraction experiments will be used to determine mechanical parameters and to validate the predictions from the μ-FE-model.
