With 243 participants, the User Meeting 2019 was the largest in the history of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum. On December 10th and 11th, the scientists discussed the scientific use of the research neutron source in the Marriott Hotel Munich. In total, the researchers presented 100 posters and held 65 lectures – an extremely positive result of the meeting.

Two days full of lectures and discussions

The first of the two days was dedicated to the Science Groups. The six groups Material Sciences, Soft Matter, Quantum Phenomena, Structural Research, Neutron Methods, Nuclear, Particle and Astrophysics presented their work in numerous presentations. On the second day, invited guest scientists gave plenary lectures for the participants. On Wednesday afternoon, the User Meeting ended with a poster session.
Between the different points of the program, the User Meeting also offered enough room for the personal exchange of scientists, especially at the conference dinner at “Zum Franziskaner”.

Welcome GhOST – the new helper at the MLZ is introduced

The User Office also used the User Meeting to introduce the new Garching Online System Tool, abbreviated GhOST, which has been in operation since 10 December. Starting with the second cycle in 2020, measurement times will only be planned using GhOST. For main applicants, this means that registration in GhOST is absolutely necessary in order to receive measurement days that have not yet been allocated.. The next Proposal Deadline in spring 2020 will also be handled by GhOST.
