Our greatest Christmas wish is to be able to provide neutrons for research and innovation again as soon as possible.

Despite the current challenging situation for neutron research in Garching, a lot is happening every day at FRM II and MLZ. The modernisation of existing instruments and the construction of new ones is in full swing. Numerous conferences and workshops in 2025 have once again facilitated exchanges with international scientists. The storage of spent fuel elements from the FRM II and their transport to the Ahaus interim storage facility have been approved. The Federal Administrative Court has confirmed the legality of the operation of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source. New research projects are being funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, including the HTS4Fusion nuclear fusion project, the ErUM transfer research project AlaAF, and the development of extremely resilient aluminium components for aerospace using industrial 3D printing.

We wish you happy holidays and a good start to the new year.
