55 students from 13 different countries participated again at the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science Labcourse at MLZ. They learned neutron scattering in lectures in Jülich and based on experiments at the research neutron source FRM II.
Insight into neutron scattering
The course aims to give a realistic insight into the experimental techniques of neutron scattering and its scientific potential. The theoretical part took place in the first week in Jülich, the practical in the second week at twelve different instruments of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum in Garching. In small groups, the students were able to get to know at least five of the instruments and had to perform neutron measurements.
The number of applicants was particularly high this time: Dr. Reiner Zorn reports that 227 students had applied for the 55 seats. The participants were from Germany, Croatia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, USA, Russia and Ukraine.
