120 scientists discuss polarized neutrons on the Domberg in Freising
On July 7, the 11th International Conference on Polarised Neutrons for Condensed Matter Investigations 2016 (PNCMI 2016) in Freising ended.
Around 120 scientists from many countries discussed new instrument concepts and applications for polarized neutrons. These are particularly suitable for investigating most interesting classes of materials on their properties, such as strongly entangled electron systems, the chirality of multiferroics (materials of metal oxides), imaging in non-crystalline materials, the magnetism in its various manifestations or thin (multiple) layers. The completion of the four-day event included broad discussions on the various European and Asian neutron sources and their instrumentation.
The PNCMI takes place every two years, as organizers every time a different global organization functions. The last PCNMI took place 2014 in Sydney and this year’s on the Domberg in Freising. The event was organized this year by the Forschungszentrum Jülich supported by the MLZ, the Science & Technology Facilities Council (ISIS) from the UK, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) from Switzerland, the Laboratoire Leon Brillion from France, the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) and the companies Swiss Neutronics, Airbus Defense & Space and Mirrotron.
