Infrastructure

The group “infrastructure” supports the scientifc staff at the MLZ in instrument overlapping and instrument-specific engineering projects and fulfills project coordination, planning and engineering tasks.

Activities

Project coordination

We coordinate civil and supply engineering measures correlated to the scientific utilization for single instrumentation projects, and also for instrument overlapping projects. Due to its legal embedding within the Atomic Energy Act, we coordinate the scientific measures with the technical operation of the facility and ensure the realization which is consistent with the approval for operation.

Mechanical engineering

To support the scientific utilization we offer consulting regarding mechanical engineering tasks and assist with the planning and realization of the latter. These are, for example pre- and detailed design for shielding measures related to the experimental field or for instrument-specific production of a dedicated neutron collimator.

3D planning activities

Development of a 3D planning guide to facilitate modification of existing or build-up of new instruments. Here, we presently focus on collision-free planning to supply the start-up instrumentation in the new neutron guide hall east with respect to the special needs of the experiments (e.g. concerning media supply or accessibility).
